114 Alerting

This is a new course in our series of short courses for REACT members to train to perform communications duties in emergencies. It is designed to give REACT Team Officers and members and our Typed response Team Leaders and Bosses an understanding of how to develop an alerting system. This knowledge will help you develop relationships in the community, plan for bad events that may impact your community, and prepare your Team to react in a disaster.

Our Alerting covers:

  • Alerting – What Is It?
  • So Who Gets Called?
  • Memoranda Of Agreement/Understanding
  • Can You Respond?
  • The Alerting Structure
  • Stepping Through The Activation Levels
  • Reporting
  • What If No One Calls

The course manual is 15 pages in length and should take no more than 1 hour to complete.  There is a detailed final examination – when you are ready, contact our training staff at Training@REACTIntl.org to obtain the web address and password for our online testing system.  Continuing education units are awarded for course completion.

Completing a course on alerting does not make you an expert. You need to practice receiving alerting messages and using your Team’s alerting system to increase its readiness to respond.  REACT International conducts quarterly Internet exercises that allows your Team to practice alerting and use the Activation Levels to manage the Team response. Contact Training@REACTIntl.org for more information.
